WooCommerce’s official Points and Rewards extension costs $179 a year (prices checked October 2026). For many stores, the core job is simpler: give customers points on completed orders and let them spend those points as a discount. Our free plugin, HDWebmobile Loyalty Points & Store Credit, does exactly that, with every feature included and no paid upgrade.
Here is an honest side-by-side, including what the free plugin does not do, so you can pick the right one.

“Not listed” means the feature is not on the extension’s product page; check with WooCommerce if you need it.
When the paid extension is the better choice
- You want to reward actions such as account sign-ups or product reviews, not just purchases.
- You need different caps per product or category.
- You want to back-fill points for past orders when you launch the programme.
- You prefer an extension sold and supported by WooCommerce itself.
When the free plugin is enough
- You want a straightforward “spend €1, earn 1 point” programme with a discount at checkout.
- You care about the balance being impossible to forge: every change is a ledger row, and the balance is always recalculated from it.
- You want refunds and cancellations to reverse points automatically.
- You would rather spend the $179 a year somewhere else.
How to switch
- Install the free plugin from WordPress.org and set the earning and redemption rates under WooCommerce › HDWebmobile.
- If customers already have balances, add them with the admin adjustment tool before you deactivate the old extension.
- Test one order end to end: earn, redeem, then refund, and check that the points reverse.

Frequently asked questions
Is the free loyalty plugin really free?
Yes. Every feature is included, it is GPL licensed and it is listed on WordPress.org. There is no paid version that unlocks more.
Can guests earn points?
No. Points are stored on the customer’s account, so guest checkouts do not earn points. Many stores use this as a reason to create an account.
What happens to points when an order is refunded?
Points earned or redeemed on that order are reversed automatically when it is cancelled, refunded or fails.
Do points expire?
Not in the current version. Points stay on the customer’s account until they are redeemed or reversed by a refund.
